Frida's World

Students, grades 1-5, have been hard at work creating a collaborative artwork inspired by the artist Frida Kahlo for our upcoming Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Friday October 14th, 2016, 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Round Lake Beach Civic Center. We are learning about Frida Kahlo, her courage, confidence, and engagement with nature in her native country of Mexico. We recreated her garden and also explored our identity and symbols with drawings of our hands that have been transformed into a flower, hummingbird, and butterfly. In Frida's World by Maria Gabriela Brito, students learned how Frida was inspired by her artist father and the natural world, how she overcame a terrible accident, her strong and joyous personality and love of children, her determination to live life to the fullest.

"Feet what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?" Frida Kahlo
